The bad news first:
The Mac Pass trails are not groomed, nor will they be before the Club’s permit allows us to do so on December 1. Additionally, it is hunting season. If you choose to ski, wear something bright that hunters will be looking to avoid shooting. Finally, the Microwave Road is badly rutted (by trucks) at least to the Haul Road, and until it’s groomed, it’s pretty darned close to unskiable.
The trails are reasonably skiable, if ungroomed. Touring gear (with or without metal edges) will transport you into a winter wonderland. I was up on Club errands Friday morning and Friday afternoon. The morning was lovely: blue sky, a fairly solid base, an inch or so of fluffy white stuff on top. By mid-afternoon, it was getting a little icy. The snow gauge mid mountain showed 9/10ths of a foot of snow. It was pretty nice skiing, again, ungroomed and sometimes rutted skiing.
Watch for the usual wet places, often they are unfrozen and almost always there’s a dip or pothole around each one. But by in large, the rocks are buried.
